Games this year will be split across three host nations; USA, Japan & Taiwain, bringing together some of the best baseball players from around the world to compete for their home nations.

First held in 2006, the tournament is organized by the World Baseball Softball Confederation and has quickly become a beloved event for baseball fans worldwide.

One of the most exciting aspects of the World Baseball Classic is the opportunity for players to represent their countries on the global stage. For many players, this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to play for their home nation and showcase their skills to a worldwide audience.

The tournament has had its share of memorable moments over the years...

In 2006, Japan defeated Cuba in the championship game to become the first ever World Baseball Classic champions. Japan would go on to win the tournament again in 2009 and 2013, solidifying their status as a baseball powerhouse.

In 2017, the tournament saw its fair share of upsets and surprises. The Netherlands, a team not typically known for their baseball prowess, defeated the heavily favored Dominican Republic in the second round of the tournament. The United States, who had never made it past the semifinals of the tournament, shocked the world by defeating Puerto Rico in the championship game to become the 2017 World Baseball Classic champions.

But, one of the most exciting storylines of the WBC is the passion and pride that players have for their home nations. Many players view the tournament as an opportunity to represent their countries in a way that is different from their professional careers.

The tournament has seen fans from all over the world travel to different countries to support their home nations, creating an electric atmosphere and a sense of camaraderie between fans of different teams. Now fans can do this from 35,000ft or from the middle of the ocean with the event broadcasted inflight & in-ship on Sport 24!

This event showcases the best of baseball on a global scale. From the passion and pride of the players to the excitement and energy of the fans, the tournament has become a beloved event for baseball fans worldwide.

With the 2023 tournament starting this week, fans are eagerly anticipating another round of unforgettable moments and memorable performances.
